Chinese American community took part in
the Congressman
Bob
Etheridge’s Birthday party 8/9/2007
(English version of China Star and
Epoch time Chinese newspaper)
On August 9, 2007 there were about 28 people from the Chinese American community that took part in
Congressman Bob Etheridge’s Birthday party. The party was held at Harnett
County High School. Similar to past years, it was a fund-raising event for
Congressman Bob Etheridge. Bob was elected as a Congressman in 1997 and is a
native North Carolinian. Since be elected to congress in 1997, he has voted for
balance budgets, while supporting reduced taxes for farms and small businesses.
He has also provided bulletproof vests for our local legal executives.
As a part time farmer, he has worked to
protect and improve agriculture. As a public school leader in congress, he has
advocated for school construction, personality education, early childhood
education, youth security, school donations and other educational things. Bob
serves on House committees that include Agriculture, Budget and Homeland Security.
He is also the chairman of the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities
and Risk Management in the House Agriculture Committee. He’s a member of the New Democrat
Coalition (NDC). NDC sometimes
play a pivotal role in various important bills in Congress. Those important
bills include balancing the budget, improved export, research and development, education and
economics growth.
This party was one of the campaign kick-off events for Bob’s
2008 election. Mr. John Wei was the organizer from the N. C. Chinese American community, who is well known in
the Chinese American community. He has encouraged the Chinese Americans to attend Bob’s birthday party
since 1998. The Chinese American group consisted of people from
Information Technology, universities, restaurant businesses, repair shops,
retail, medicine production, accountant and public issue, etc. Mr. Wei said, “The number of Chinese American participants is the largest of
the past 10years. The group made up
almost one-fourth of the total participants. Indeed, Bob did help a lot of
citizenship, green card, and U. S. visa issues for Asian American during the past 10 years.
It is proof that the population of Chinese American
in the Research Triangle Park has grown
rapidly and they are performing very important job in different fields. There participation is the best proof that
Chinese Americans, “Not only care about
themselves but also local politics”. Mr. Wei believes that participation into
politics is the only way to improve the social relation between the Chinese American
and the main stream American society. He
encouraged Chinese Americans to be involved
not only in Federal, but also State, and local level politics whenever they
settle into this society.
